Repeat Prescriptions

Dear Patient,

Important changes to the way repeat prescriptions are ordered

A “repeat prescription” is a medication that you receive regularly without having to see a doctor each time you order it. Patients can order their repeat prescription directly from the surgery using a number of different methods:

  1. at the surgery, using your prescription order form / right hand side of your prescription
  2. by post, using your prescription order form / right hand side of your prescription
  3. online (speak with a member of the reception team for further details)

What is changing?

Verbal and telephone requests for repeat prescriptions can introduce a higher risk of error as orders for medication can be misheard, misinterpreted or incorrectly recorded. By requesting your medication in writingor onlineyou will be helping to ensure that your request is matched accurately within your records and the prescription is processed in a safe and efficient manner.

Garretts Green Lane Surgery places a high value on safety and therefore from 1stof August 2019 the surgery will no longer accept telephone requests for repeat prescription medications.

What is not changing?

You will not be affected by this change if you currently order your repeat prescription directly from the surgery using the prescription order form or online service.

Who do I contact if I need more support?

If you feel you might need additional support in ordering your repeat prescription from the surgery, or you know someone who might need help, please do not hesitate to contact the surgery.

How do I find out more information?

To find out more about this change and how it might affect you, please speak with reception.

When ordering your repeat prescription, please remember:

  • To check what you have at home to avoid stockpiling medication.
  • Medication should only be ordered when it is needed. Check how much medication you have left and only order a new prescription when you have between 5-7 days’ of medication supply remaining.
  • Please allow up to 48 hours(excluding weekends) before collecting your prescription. You can let the practice know if there is a reason why you need to order your medication earlier than usual, e.g. if you will be away when your prescription runs out.

We would like to thank you for your co-operation with the changes outlined in this letter.  Should you have any concerns or queries please do not hesitate to contact a member of staff at the surgery.

Yours sincerely

Garretts Green Lane Surgery

Requests should be made in writing or with a repeat prescription counterpart or online via the link at the top of this page.

Repeat prescription requests could take up to 48 hours to process. Hence it is essential that you order before you run out of  your medications

Requests for repeat prescriptions by telephone lead to mistakes and block telephone lines.

The Practice also offers the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS), where the prescription is electronically sent to your nominated pharmacy. Patients can sign up for EPS in the Practice or with their pharmacy

Please allow 48 hours for the prescription to be issued.

For postal requests please enclose a stamped addressed envelope.

Medication Reviews

Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see a doctor, nurse practitioner or practice nurse at least once a year to review these regular medications and notification should appear on your repeat slip.

Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.
